There is a lot to see in this mural. On the left there is a portrait of a man which was painted from an old black & white photo that can be found in the historical museum Terramar. He represents a bit of Bonaire’s history. The painting in the middle with the mermaid was actually already there and was only freshened up by Loes. To the right she added an eyecatcher, a huge hummingbird. The sun was the last addition, sprouting from plants because on Bonaire the say “de zon kiemt’ which means it rises but in Dutch ‘kiemen’ also means sprouting or germinating. 

Loes has a way of hiding things in her murals. In this one she put the names of her children: Fien, Dries, Suze en Saartje. Can you find them?
